And as Joel Schlossberg writes in a well-written essay on Jonathan Kozol as an illustration of ways to think about schooling (and deschooling): "Either extreme can be very counterproductive; either when one is opposing even the public schools that are making major efforts to go against the grain, in Arnold Greenberg's words, "infiltrating the system"; or ignoring altogether the role of private schools, with their relative independence from the system."
